Detailed Review
Swapeo has a distinctive home exchange process. There is no charge to list and contact other members. Contact must be done through the site message system, which is translated into the language of the receiver. Personal contact information is not shared at all; this is withheld until both parties agree to a swap. Then payment must be made by both parties in order for the process to proceed. After the first exchange, there is no fee for additional trades during the year.
There are many attempts to personalize and ease the search function, most notably "clubs" which allows one to personalize (i.e. motorcyclists, hiking, gardening, allergies, handicap) their search. Each of these clubs has options specific to the interest. For example, in the Hiking and Nature section, one can specify any equipment that can be used by the exchanger.
For all the attention to detail, there are several glaring omissions. There is no reverse search, no place for the listers to write a description of their home, and some of the pages need help with coding errors. Another issue is that, although the membership date is listed, many of the listings are several years old. There is a sort by age of listing option, but many of the listings have swap dates before the enrollment date, which makes one wonder about the accuracy of the dates.
